The Division of Nephrology at the University of Missouri-Columbia was established in 1969. Ramesh Khanna, MD became the Division Director in 1999, when Karl D. Nolph, MD retired after being at the helm for over 25 years. The division is nationally and internationally recognized for its excellence in the areas of teaching, patient care and research.

The nephrology fellowship program provides an all around educational experiences such that trainees may acquire complete competency in the field of Nephrology. Fellows are given opportunities to assume continuing responsibility for both acutely and chronically ill patients with kidney diseases in order to learn the natural history of disease processes as well as the effectiveness of therapeutic programs, and to observe and manage patients with a wide variety of kidney-related diseases on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Our training program gives wide array of opportunities to get hands on experiences in scholarly activities including clinical and bench research.
