Welcome to the Division of Gastroenterology at the University Hospital!
I am pleased to have this opportunity to inform you of the newly established and technologically advanced Missouri Digestive Health Center at the University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Missouri. Our mission here at the Missouri Digestive Health Center is to provide a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach to digestive health. Our physicians, nurses, and researchers are able to provide the best possible care to our patients by utilizing cutting edge technology, advanced research, and effective patient education.
The Missouri Digestive Health Center offers six lines of service with a specialized team of physicians, nurses, and researchers who are highly trained and dedicated to digestive health. These lines of service include: advanced and therapeutic endoscopy, colorectal cancer screening, liver diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, neuromuscular and swallowing disorders, and nutritional sciences.
The Missouri Digestive Health Center utilizes the latest technology and advanced equipment for highly technical diagnosis and treatment of complex digestive disorders. The result is fewer complications and superior patient care. Some of the highly advanced procedures we currently offer to our patients include: endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with fine needle aspirate (FNA), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), advanced endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and capsule endoscopy. The MU Digestive Health Center is only one of two centers in the US that offer ESD. This procedure allows removal of advanced colon polyps and early colon cancer endoscopically. Our Digestive Health Center is the first in the state of Missouri to utilize the high technology of narrow band imaging (NBI) and high definition (HD) in endoscopic procedures for the care of our patients.
At the Missouri Digestive Health center we value patient privacy and strive to make scheduling convenient and efficient for our patients. Our newly renovated endoscopy suite at the University Hospital and Clinics offers patients completely private pre-operative and recovery rooms with easy access and state-of-the-art high technology equipment. Our highly trained nurses and physicians strive to offer prompt service to our patients and timely communication with referring physicians.
